Spiritual Pick-Me-Up or Daily Closer to Christ
Some people need a good strong 'something' in the morning to get going; hot shower, coffee, etc. I've found something that gets me going in the right direction and I want to share that with you. I've tried to do better at reading my scriptures every day. Mornings aren't always good because I tend to sleep in as long as possible - and if I don't shower before reading - I fall asleep while attempting said task. So unless it's a Saturday or Sunday - morning scripture reading doesn't happen. But I can go here and find some spiritual fuel to keep me going for the day. Emily Freeman is an author and a frequent presenter at Time Out For Women. She also has an incredible insight to the scriptures and a way to 'liken them to us' that is intensely personal. I can go to the blog and peruse what she has written - or - the best thing - I now have it sent directly to my email when she puts a new one on. She has a calendar listing of daily reading so you can read the entire standard works (Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants and Pearl of Great Price) in one year. I'm not sure I'm there yet, but I AM appreciating the perspective she is adding to my scripture study.
Farmhouse BBQ Muffins
I've pulled out a few of the 'old' family recipes lately. Ones that we made a lot when our daughters were home.
Farmhouse Barbecue Muffins
1 tube (10 oz) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
1 lb ground beef
1/2 c. ketchup
3 TBS brown sugar
1 TBS cider vinegar
1/2 tsp. chili powder
1 c. (4 oz) shredded cheddar cheese
Separate dough into 10 biscuits; flatten into 5" circles. (I actually 'steal' a little dough from each biscuit and put the pieces together to make 2 more!) Press each into the bottom and up the sides of a greased muffin cup; set aside.
In a skillet, brown ground beef; drain. In a small bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar and chili powder; stir until smooth. Add to meat and mix well. Divide the meat mixture among biscuit-lined muffin cups, using about 1/4 cup for each. Sprinkle with cheese.
Bake at 375 for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from tin and serving.
This is very good served with your favorite potatoes and a salad or other vegetable.

Valentines Cookies
I've been sick since January 2nd - you know - the sore throat, swollen glands, ears that hurt, sinus headache, occasional cough. Two weeks ago I finally gave in and went to the dr. He gave me 2 weeks worth of antibiotics that is normally a 10 day regime and said: "Call in 2 weeks and let me know how you're doing - if you are not at 100%, I'll call in another 2 weeks worth." I'm some better, but not enough to think that the antibiotics are really doing anything. I'm thinking it must be viral and antibiotics aren't going to help anyway. I'm conflicted about whether or not to call. Guess I'll see what tomorrow brings.
