LDS Church - General Women's Mtg.

I don't know about you - but I need a spiritual pick-me-up!  And it all begins this weekend!

It begins with the General Women's Meeting this weekend.  There just might be cupcakes or ice cream, or both afterwards!  And it continues the following weekend with General Conference.  I love having the opportunity to listen to Prophets, Apostles and leaders of the auxiliaries speak.  I love reading over their talks after conference is over.  You should see my Ensign!  Lots of notes in the margins, lots of colors, lots of wondering what I  need to do to be better....

Won't you join us?

General Conference Study

I was perusing some of my favorite blogs the other day and saw a picture that just made my heart happy.  I don't know if it was the different colors that had been used, or the fact that my scriptures are beginning to look a little like this and I had just never thought of doing this with my conference edition of the Ensign - but I almost got giddy!
See what I mean?  Looking at this Ensign just makes me happy!  I'm thinking a lot of personal revelation is happening with this kind of study of the talks from our prophets and apostles.  I don't know about you - but I could use some personal revelation right now.  There is something weighing heavy on my heart and I can't resolve it on my own.  I need some help.

If you would like to feel the peace that comes from listening to modern-day prophets and apostles, I invite you to listen to the General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints this weekend.  Saturday and Sunday.  You can find the link here: and check on General Conference.  You can stream it on your computer, you can listen, or you can print off written transcripts of the talks that are given.

I found this wonderful picture here:  and I think you should check it out.  You can download printables to help you study and take notes while conference is happening.  I think I'll just wait for my Ensign to come and will mark it up with pretty colors.  I may buy my markers tonight when I go shopping.  Thank you 'Simple Inspiration' blog.....I love your Ensign!

And - if you want to make Conference a time of celebration - check out this blog post from Emily Freeman found here.  I'll give you a hint:  it involves candy!  I'm all in!

Have a great week and a fabulous weekend.

General Conference

I am so looking forward to General Conference in a couple of weeks!  I love being taught at the feet of apostles and prophets.  I used to read the New Testament and couldn't imagine not sitting at the feet of the Savior to be taught.  And yet, now, it is so easy to be distracted by the 'things' going on in the world that sometimes I forget that these men are His spokesmen on the earth today.  They have priesthood authority and they have the direction that I need in my life RIGHT NOW.....why not set aside the world for a few hours and soak it all up!

What happened to the light?

We lost electricity the other day - a LOT of us. An electrical substation started on fire. I was VERY grateful it wasn't one of the 100 degree days we've been having. My electric clocks stopped at 2:30 pm. We were told it would be between 1-3:00 am before it would be restored. I had just put several bags of chicken and burger in my freezer and had lots of deli meat in the fridge that I didn't want to loose, so myself and a neighbor headed out in search of dry ice. We weren't quick enough on the search as some of the eating establishments had purchased all dry ice available, so we settled for bags of regular ice - threw them in our coolers and headed for home.

When we left home, it was just dusk - sometimes it was difficult to tell exactly who had power and who didn't. When we were returning home, it was full-out DARK! The city we live in is quite hilly, so as we topped a hill getting closer to our neighborhood - we were stunned at the blackness that almost seemed to smack us in face. There was an occasional light off in the distance where a house was obviously on a different power grid - and they had worked to get the traffic lights functioning, but other than that - it was DARK. We were used to the lights that were reference points - and now before us was a deep, penetrating darkness. We both commented that we almost felt dizzy because we had lost our bearings. It was difficult to tell where we were and where we needed to go.

We all need LIGHT. And not just physical light to help us find our way - but spiritual light that will guide us to where we want to go - and for me, that is to return again to the presence of my Savior and my Father in Heaven. Darkness can surround us in various ways - and the only way to disseminate it is by light. I thought of all the things that need to be done so my proverbial lamp is filled with the oil needed so I will have sufficient light to guide me through the dark times that inevitably come to each of us. A new favorite scripture is: "And I will be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; ..." 1 Nephi 17:13

My prayer for you is that you might have Light!
How do you fill your lamps?

Millie & Casey - Together Forever!

There are a few days here and there in my life that I would deem as 'perfect'. This was certainly one of them! Millie Miller and Casey Lewis were sealed for time and for eternity in the Logan LDS temple. She is marrying into a wonderful family and we were happy to share the day with them. In the LDS faith, we believe that when a marriage is performed in one of our sacred temples by the correct priesthood authority, that the marriage does not end at death, but continues throughout eternity. And likewise, the children that are part of that family are also sealed to the parents. Thus, the family is also an eternal family unit. It brings such peace to my soul to know that we can be together forever!
Setting up --- we had lots of good help!

After spending the morning decorating, we stopped here to have some lunch. If you are ever in Logan, UT - check out 'Great Harvest Bread Company'. We enjoyed a free slice of bread, and also ordered some yummy sandwiches and soup. It quickly became a favorite stopping place for our family!

Here comes the Bride! ...and groom of course!

And then came the party - the celebration to share with lots of family and friends!

They were dancing to the song: "Stealing Cinderella", but he was thinking: 'I Loved Her First'. Both of them blamed the other for starting to cry first.

Midwest Hit by String of Deadly Tornadoes

Midwest Hit by String of Deadly Tornadoes
Our thoughts and prayers to all who have been affected by this storm, because you were part of it - or because you know someone who was. This is a time of uncertainty. There are all kinds of 'storms' that we all must weather, but for those who are struggling with this temporal devastation - our prayers are with you. They need: easy, ready to eat non-perishable food, tents, sleeping bags, blankets, towels, hygeine items, cleaning supplies, gloves, flashlights, $$. How are YOU going to help? We will be putting together some items to send with a trailer that is leaving from the KC Bishop's Storehouse on Thursday.

Since the Joplin Stake Center was destroyed...we will wait to send relief items until they have a staging area set up. I'll let you know what is needed when I know and what you can do!

Kansas City Temple

Check out the Kansas City Temple Chasers on my bloglist. We are so excited to have a temple in our area and I can't wait for Friday night dates to the temple! The open house should be in about a year - plan to attend with us to see what a temple looks like up close and personal. If you have any questions - please ask!

Kansas City Mormon Temple

We are so excited about this temple being constructed. When we first moved to Missouri - Chicago was our temple. It was 9-9 1/2 hours away by vehicle and included an overnight stay in most instances. Back then, sometimes we could fly - one way for $29! Then the St. Louis Temple was built and it was 4.5 hours away. Next came the Winter Quarters Temple - at 2 to 2.5 hours away. And now the Kansas City Temple at about 45 minutes from doorstep to doorstep! We are thinking that an opportunity to serve as temple workers will be coming and we look forward to spring of 2012 for an open house when the public can go through and see the inside, followed by the dedication.

Click on the picture or the title to go to the link and watch the progress of the temple along with the rest of us!
